LINCO Set & Hatch had a very successful participation in the VIV Europe exhibition. The exhibition seemed in general to be a bit calm, - probably due to the bird flu situation, but the fact that LINCO introduced novelties of great interest for the market, attracted very high attention.

Professional® Control

A completely new control system with a full size 12” touch colour screen provides the hatcheries with facilities that were not available in the past. The new controller is designed for Internet communication and this allows further back-up facilities from LINCO Service centres.

The incubation programmes are among the new features in the Professional® Control, - the programmes are entered as graphs (not figures) and this ensures a dynamic adjustment of the temperature, humidity, etc. Read more…

Humidity control by Automatic Weight Loss System ‘AWLS’     <<< Go Back

In the past years focus on incubator controls has mainly been on controlling temperature in the machines at accurate levels, - probably the most important feature in large scale single-stage incubation.

However, after implementing the heating and cooling coils in the setter trolleys, the Set & Hatch equipment was able to control the temperature even in the biggest cabinets on an extremely accurate level, resulting in outstanding hatching performance.

To improve the hatching results even further, LINCO started to develop an evenly accurate humidity control system, with the purpose of ensuring the optimal weight loss of the eggs, - - and now we are proud to introduce Automatic Weight Loss System (AWLS).

Technical background:
Intensive research proves the high importance of getting the humidity set-point adjusted to the right level within a few hours after setting the eggs.
Several factors influence the weight loss of an egg, among those:

-
The size of the egg
-
The shell quality
-
Level of ventilation
-          Humidity level in the ambient
-          Air temperature in the ambient
-          Type of humidity supply system
-          Airflow pattern
-          Airflow velocity
-          Etc.

. . but in industrial incubation environments, at average parameters, it has proven difficult to get below a RH% of 35 (without artificial humidity reduction) and under these conditions the maximum weight loss per day (24 hours) is approx. 0.7%, (Fig.1)

Fig.1

Fig.2

As the optimal weight reduction for a hen egg is 11.5%, it will demand 16.5 days of maximum weight reduction (0.7%) to reach the required loss, - thus leaving only 1,5 day of margin to get to the right set point in manually operated systems.

Fig.3

With ‘AWLS’, the humidity level will be adjusted to the perfect level already after 2 hours of incubation, and the required weight loss will always be reached before transferring the eggs to the hatcher.

Benefits:

When using the “AWLS” all eggs will reach optimum level of weight loss, and the hatch will produce more and uniform chicks of top quality, regardless different eggs qualities have been incubated in different setters.

The improved hatchability is found with all ages and types of eggs, - but especially by incubation of eggs from old Parent Stock the ‘AWLS’ proves its value.

Technical design:

The ‘AWLS’ is operated with the LINCO Professional® Control System.

The weight loss is constantly monitored from 2.520 eggs, ensuring very accurate measuring, results. The LINCO ‘AWLS’ is operated from the hour of setting to the hour of transferring.

A turning frame section in a setter trolley is in both ends suspended on electronic load cells, and the weight of the 2.520 eggs is measured once in every turning period. The humidity level is adjusted (if required) immediately after every weight check.

Monitoring a complete turning section means that the collected data relate to eggs placed all the way from top to bottom in the trolley, - this combined with the big quantity of eggs monitored ensures that adjustments are made on a solid base of intelligence.

The trolley with the load cells is easily identified on its blue colour top frame.

Co² control as an integrated feature.                                             <<< Go Back

Ventilation of the incubators based on the Co² level has been available in LINCO machines for a few years, but now all data are recorded and it is possible to choose whether the machines adjust the Co² automatically or it is just recorded in the database.

John Stender has joined the LINCO Set & Hatch technical service and installation department.

John has been working as site- & project manager for several international companies, and he has been in charge of projects in Europe, The Middle East and Asia.

John was for a period employed with Funki (taken over by LINCO in 1998) as project supervisor, and before joining LINCO he was manager of the installation department in Skiold Echberg (Denmark).

DanHatch

This year has seen DanHatch A/S become the single, largest broiler producer in Denmark following the takeover of the second hatchery Holmegård A/S. The merger and consolidation of Denmark’s broiler production by DanHatch A/S now means a total production of 135-140 million chicks per year, making them one of the largest producers of day old chicks in Europe.

The aim of this merger is to consolidate the production of the companies, thus taking advantage of the economies of scale and effectively using the DanHatch experience and know how in chick production.

Mr Kristian Holm Kristensen (MD of DanHatch for the last 5 years) will be Managing Director of the newly merged company.

LINCO Set & Hatch have in August moved to new purpose built premises.

The new premises will provide space and resources for the continued expansion of LINCO Set & Hatch over the next few years, as well as allow us to increase our production facilities and manpower for a substantial increase in in-house production.

In an ongoing effort to increase our control of quality assurance, LINCO Set & Hatch is decreasing the number of sub suppliers and increasing our level of manufacture. This will obviously give us a much tighter and streamlined operation, especially in being able to self determine such important factors as quality, design and delivery lead times.

Our new address is:
LINCO Set & Hatch A/S
Orionvej 28
7430 Ikast
Denmark
Telephones, Fax, E-mails and Web all remain unchanged.
